    Description

The Bedsore Blocker is a polymer tool that is portable, lightweight, that sits on a hospital bed to hold a patient in a longitudinal lateral position to avert pressure off a back from a mattress at an angle of 46.9° to of 68.1° degrees, and conducts heat away from the patient’s body, remove moisture from the skin, provide ventilation for thermal control, from the skin surface to prevent or cure pressure ulcers. The Bedsore blocker, which is a portable, lightweight (approximately 7 pounds), polymer device that is placed on a hospital bed to hold an individual’s body off a bed in a longitudinal lateral position.
Bedsore Blocker is 16 inches wide by 18 inches deep and 15 inches’ tall dimensional unit that has the ability to raise an angle position range from 45 degrees to 75 degrees’ inclination to hold an individual’s body of up to 350 pounds in a longitudinal lateral position. The interface with the patient is the backboard that is made from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) which is a general-purpose material that offers a unique combination of wear and corrosion resistance, low surface friction, high impact strength, high chemical resistance, does not absorb moisture, and is compliant with biological evaluation of medical devices ISO 10993-1.
The UHMW-PE backboard is designed to have the patient resting directly onto the backboard, where the polymer high conductivity at room temperature can conduct heat away from the skin surface. The backboard has 96 holes that runs in an 8 x 12 pattern to allow air flow ventilation for heat convection to allow the skin to cool and reduce moisture between the patient’s skin surface and the backboard or mattress.
