SELECT FROM THREE LID STYLES:
Classic
: Each jar's lid has 4 small drilled holes through which you inoculate. Once inoculated, you cover w/ micropore tape to prevent contamination.
Gen2:
Each jar's lid has two 1/4" punched holes to maximize gas exchange. Each hole is stuffed with polyfill prior to sterilization to minimize contamination risks both during shipment and inoculation. You inoculate straight through the polyfill.
Cosmic:
Each jar's lid has two self-healing butyl rubber injection ports and a Tyvek-covered hole to maximize gas exchange and prevent contamination. You inoculate through the rubber injection ports and let nature take its course.
We only make the jars AFTER you order so you get the freshest possible substrate. It's not unusual to see mycelium forming after spore inoculation within 2-3 days, though 5-10 days is more typical especially if you're unsure of your strain's robustness. The substrates have a very low contamination risk for grain spawn as long as you sterilize your syringes prior to inoculation, sterilize your lids and injection points, and use clean culture. As with our other products, these are perfect for first-time mushroom noobs. They are easily stored in a drawer or cabinet so they're "out of sight, out of mind" though feel free to leave them in a shady spot out in the open - they'll perform just as well.
Due to fluctuating jar availability (because 2021 has just been that way), you may receive either short or tall half-pint jars. Surface area is the same for both types of jar and growth potential is identical.
